Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
- Pour the yeast mixture and melted butter into the well. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each into a 24-inch rope and shape into pretzels.
- In a pot, bring water to a boil, add baking soda, and stir to dissolve.
- Boil each shaped pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush boiled pretzels with beaten egg.
- Sprinkle the pretzels with the cinnamon-sugar topping while still wet.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
