- Press the firm tofu with paper towels and a heavy object for about 30 minutes to drain excess moisture.
- While the tofu presses, whisk together tamari, maple syrup, rice wine vinegar, minced garlic, ground ginger, and Chinese five spice in a bowl.
- Once drained, cut the tofu into even 1-inch cubes.
- Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch in a large bowl.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat and fry the tofu cubes until golden, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove tofu from the pan and sauté chopped red pepper for 5 minutes.
- Combine the tofu with sautéed red pepper, pour in the sauce and heat through for 1 minute.
- Serve with garnished scallions.
