Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Press the firm tofu with paper towels and a heavy object for about 30 minutes to drain excess moisture.
  2. While the tofu presses, whisk together tamari, maple syrup, rice wine vinegar, minced garlic, ground ginger, and Chinese five spice in a bowl.
  3. Once drained, cut the tofu into even 1-inch cubes.
  4. Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch in a large bowl.
  5. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat and fry the tofu cubes until golden, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Remove tofu from the pan and sauté chopped red pepper for 5 minutes.
  7. Combine the tofu with sautéed red pepper, pour in the sauce and heat through for 1 minute.
  8. Serve with garnished scallions.
