  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream or half-and-half for a lighter alternative
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar brown sugar can be used for deeper flavor
For the Flavor
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract or vanilla bean paste for more intensity
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon nutmeg can be a substitute
  • 1 pinch Salt
For the Topping
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar for caramelizing on top
  • 1 cup Fresh Berries for topping

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cut brioche or challah bread into 1-inch thick slices and arrange in a greased baking dish.
  2. Whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  3. Pour custard mixture over bread slices, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and center is set. Broil for an additional 2-3 minutes for extra crispiness.
  6. Sprinkle granulated sugar over the top and caramelize with a kitchen torch or under the broiler.
  7. Allow to cool slightly, then slice and serve topped with fresh berries and syrup.
