Step-by-Step Instructions

  2. Combine half of the cocoa powder with hot coffee in a bowl and let it bloom.
  3. In a larger bowl, sift together flour, remaining cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla to dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  5. Stir in the bloomed cocoa mixture until fully incorporated.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pans, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes and check for doneness with a toothpick.
  8. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Melt chocolate, butter, cream, and sifted sugar together to make the frosting.
