Method
 

Preparation
  1. Gather all your ingredients. Peel the cucumber, chop it into smaller pieces, and set aside. Cut the pineapple into cubes and squeeze about 4-5 limes to yield ½ cup of juice.
  2. In a blender, combine the chopped cucumber, pineapple, lime juice, and peeled ginger. Add 3 cups of water and blend on high for 1-2 minutes until fully combined.
  3. Taste the mixture. If desired, add 2-4 tablespoons of maple syrup, and blend for an additional 10-20 seconds.
  4. If you prefer a smoother texture, pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl or pitcher.
  5. Transfer the agua fresca into a large pitcher filled with ice. Chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before serving.
  6. For a cocktail version, add 1 ounce of gin or vodka per cup and stir gently.
