For Cooking
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil Canola or peanut oil works well too.
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic yields the best taste.
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste or freshly grated Fresh ginger enhances the flavor profile significantly.
For the Sweet and Savory Sauce
  • 4 tbsp honey Maple syrup serves as an excellent substitute if desired.
  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes (optional) Feel free to omit for a milder version.
For Garnish
  • 2 green onions, sliced A simple yet effective garnish that elevates the plate.

Equipment

  • Non-stick Frying Pan

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of light soy sauce with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, creating a smooth mixture. Add 450g of peeled and deveined shrimp to the bowl, tossing them gently to ensure they are well-coated. Allow the shrimp to marinate for about 5 minutes as you prepare the other ingredients.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat until shimmering, about 2 minutes. Quickly add 3-4 cloves of minced garlic and 1 tablespoon of grated ginger, stirring continuously for around 30 seconds or until fragrant.
  3. Introduce the marinated shrimp to the pan, spreading them evenly across the surface to ensure they cook uniformly. Allow them to sear for 1-2 minutes on each side until they turn a vibrant pink and opaque.
  4. Once the shrimp are perfectly cooked, pour 4 tablespoons of honey over them, along with 1/4 teaspoon of chili flakes if desired. Toss the shrimp gently to ensure they are evenly coated.
  5. Remove the pan from heat and transfer your Honey Garlic Shrimp to a serving platter. Garnish with freshly sliced green onions and serve immediately.
