Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Press Tofu: Wrap the extra firm tofu in paper towels to absorb excess moisture. Place a heavy object on top and let it sit for about 20 minutes.
  2. Make Sauce: Whisk together the low sodium soy sauce, dark soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, grated onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl.
  3. Prep Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized pieces or crumble for a rustic look.
  4. Cook Tofu: Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat, add tofu in a single layer, and cook until golden, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  5. Sauce Incorporation: Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked tofu, cooking for an additional 5 minutes to thicken.
  6. Serve: Remove from heat and serve warm, optionally garnishing with sesame seeds and green onions.
